Scientific program

The schedule of the scientific program is now final (note that we had to perform some changes on Friday, so double-check the time of your presentation). Some last minute changes are possible. They will be announced through the online program app (see below). We will try as much as possible to keep the presentations schedule untouched. However, the room assignment might still change: we plan to use information from the personalized program to identify popular sessions and we might switch them to larger rooms if needed. The final assignment of sessions to rooms should be available on Sunday 9.

We have developed a brand new progressive web application to allow you to easily browse the program: https://www.euro-online.org/conferences/program/

It is a fast and mobile-friendly application that allows you to browse the program from any device, by time, stream, participant or even keyword. Before the conference, we will also add practical information like room maps. On a smartphone, you can add it to your home screen as any native application and use it offline after the first use.

You can also use it to create your own selection of sessions, and if you log in, it will be automatically synchronized with your online account in the abstract submission tool: https://www.euro-online.org/conf/or2018/myprogram where you can also find a personalized link to a calendar file that you can synchronize with your agenda.

The traditional booklet of abstracts is available as a pdf file here: https://www.euro-online.org/conf/admin/tmp/program-or2018.pdf . Note that you will not get a printed version of it nor a copy on a usb stick. We try to be responsible and avoid waste. A small booklet with an overview of the sessions and practical information will be given to all participants, but we will rely on electronic media for the detailed program.

Presentations within sessions

There will be around 400 presentations that are organized in parallel sessions within thematic streams. Each talk is allocated 25 minutes (20 minutes presentation and 5 minutes for discussion). The first author of an abstract is supposed to give the speech.

Lecture rooms are equipped with a computer and video-projector. The speakers generally bring their presentation file on a USB storage device in a common format (ppt/pptx, pdf). The use of one’s own computer is also possible but not encouraged. Please show up 10 minutes before your presentation to upload your presentation on the computer. In case of no shows or last minute cancellations, the assigned time slot is left empty, so that all presentations start as indicated in the program.

Session chairs

The chair of the session is usually the organizer of the session or the last speaker. Please check if you have been assigned a session to chair by looking for yourself in the list of participants: https://www.euro-online.org/conferences/program/#participants . Session chairs are asked to be present in the room 10 minutes before the session to ensure all speakers are present and have uploaded their presentation on the computer. In case of technical difficulties, the session chair should contact the local staff (identifiable by the conference t-shirt).

The session chair is responsible for dividing the time into equal parts (25 minutes per speaker). The session chair also facilitates the discussion. Please begin and end each presentation on time and ensure that the presentations are held in the order shown in the program. If a speaker cancels or does not attend, the session chair is asked to have a break of according length. Please refrain from any changes to the schedule to allow participants for session jumping.

Social program

You are all invited to attend the Get-Together on Tuesday night and the reception on the university campus on Wednesday night. All details can be found on the website of the conference https://www.or2018.be under “Social Program”. If you did not register for the conference dinner on Thursday and changed your mind, please send us an email at or2018@euro-online.org to buy your ticket (payment by bank transfer).

Looking forward to see you in Brussels!
